Bromsgrove District Council has added a new pink waste vehicle to its fleet following record growth in commercial recycling from local businesses.
Over the past 12 months, the Commercial Waste Team collected more than 240 tonnes of additional recyclable material compared to the previous year. The council introduced this brightly coloured vehicle to keep pace with increased demand for recycling and food waste collections from business customers.
Growth driven by food waste service
The growth follows the successful launch of the council's commercial food waste collection service. More businesses across Bromsgrove and surrounding areas are choosing to manage their waste sustainably.
Cllr Peter Whittaker, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: "It is fantastic to see demand for the service continuing to grow to the point where we need a new vehicle to support it. Our teams are doing a brilliant job in providing this service, but the real success story is the contribution of local businesses, who have generated the equivalent of around 20 double decker buses in extra recycling."
Cllr Karen May, Leader of the council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, added: "A strong local economy and a healthy environment go hand in hand and while the new vehicle is certainly hard to miss, it also represents a practical investment in a service that continues to grow and do good. Local businesses are embracing greener ways of working and we are proud to support that journey."
