Bromsgrove District Council is encouraging residents to reconsider what they throw away during Recycle Week 2026, as part of the campaign "Rescue Your Recyclables".
The campaign highlights everyday household items that can be recycled but often end up in the general waste bin. Throughout the week, residents will encounter a cast of recyclable characters designed to promote the message: Ally the Kitchen Foil, Deo the Aerosol Can, Minty the Toothpaste Tube, Rolly the Toilet Roll Tube and Yogi the Yoghurt Pot.
What can be recycled?
Cllr Peter Whittaker, the council's Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Community Safety, said: "Many of us are already good at recycling the obvious things, but there are still lots of everyday things ending up in general waste that could be recycled instead, cutting waste costs."
Items such as toothpaste tubes, aerosol cans and clean foil balls can be given new life through recycling. When recycled correctly, these simple household items can be transformed into new products, helping to conserve resources and reduce waste.

Residents can check what is recyclable in their area at www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/bins, where a recycling locator tool is available to explore the range of recycling options. The council will share tips, facts and advice on its social media channels during Recycle Week.
