Work to extend the car park at Sanders Park will begin on Monday 17 August and is expected to take between six and eight weeks to complete.
The project will increase parking capacity at the overflow car park and improve accessibility for visitors. Once finished, the car park will provide an additional 23 standard parking bays and 6 disabled bays, though final numbers remain subject to change during construction.
What the work will involve
The works include excavation of topsoil, new drainage installation, kerb and footpath improvements, resurfacing, and the creation of additional parking spaces.
Expected disruption
Residents and visitors should expect some inconvenience while work is carried out. Construction traffic, noise, dust, and muddy conditions will be unavoidable at certain stages. At times, both visitors and construction vehicles may need to follow a temporary one-way arrangement that differs from the normal car park layout to exit safely.
Traffic management measures will be in place throughout the works and visitors are asked to follow all signage and instructions for their own safety. Members of the public must not enter the construction area at any time.
Working hours and timing
Working hours will be restricted to 8am to 5pm on weekdays only, with no evening, overnight or weekend working planned, to reduce the impact on residents and park users.
Bromsgrove District Council acknowledges the work begins towards the end of the school summer holidays. The council stated that parts of the project are heavily dependent on suitable weather conditions — excavation and earth-moving become much more difficult during wetter periods, while resurfacing work needs warmer temperatures to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish.
