The Government has confirmed plans to restructure local government across Worcestershire. From 1 April 2028, the county's current seven borough, city, district and county councils will be replaced with two unitary councils: one covering North Worcestershire and one covering South Worcestershire.
Bromsgrove District Council is among the seven councils affected by the reorganisation. The other councils are Malvern Hills District Council, Redditch Borough Council, Worcester City Council, Worcestershire County Council, Wychavon District Council, and Wyre Forest District Council.
Leaders commit to transition
The leaders of all seven councils have issued a joint statement expressing their commitment to making the new arrangements work for residents, businesses and communities.
"The debate is now over and we have a clear direction from the Government," the statement reads. "The decision also provides important clarity for staff across our councils, allowing us to fully focus on planning and delivering an effective transition without any negative impact on the services residents currently receive."
The leaders acknowledged that the reorganisation debate has involved strongly held views from councils and residents. They stated that their shared priority moving forward will be ensuring every part of Worcestershire is properly represented and that local voices continue to shape decisions before April 2028.
The statement concluded: "We are united in our determination to deliver high-quality, financially sustainable, transformed services that meet the needs of our communities both now and in the future."
